Who would have thought that the staple footwear of gladiators and Coliseum slaves back in ancient Rome would become the must-have of every fashionista? Wearing gladiator sandals, however, can be tricky. If you have chunky legs, wearing gladiator sandals can make it appear thicker than usual. But worry not, here are some styles that you can wear without your thighs look like tree trunks.
Tip #1 Experiment with the strap width.
Get the strap width that complements your legs. Make sure that they are in the right proportion so they do not end up swallowing your feet or highlighting its size. Generally, stay away from straps that are too thin or too thick. Extremely thin straps can cut your large feet in all the wrong places like an unflattering string bikini. Straps that are too thick, on the other hand, can look like someone was trying to trap your feet with a pair of steel cages.
Tip #2 Slim down with heeled gladiator sandals.
Everyone knows that high heels are can make your legs leaner, longer, and shapelier. Wear it with a short skirt and notice how the eye is drawn to the best parts of your leg instead of the gladiator ankle strap. Just because you can now wear this type of sandal doesn’t mean that you should now compromise style for comfort. Get a high heeled sandal that you can wear for hours especially if you plan on hitting some bars after work.
Tip #3 Rock the ankle tall look.
There are 3 types of gladiator sandals. You can choose to rock the ankle tall, the mid calf, and knee high ones. Keep in mind that the best type of sandals for chunky-legged women is the ankle tall one. Avoid the knee high or the mid calf ones if you have curvy calves because they will fit too tightly. As much as possible, you do not want your legs to look like sausages. Walk a couple of blocks and dogs might start running after you.
But who cares, right? People violate fashion do’s and don’t's every single day. As long as you feel happy and beautiful, it doesn’t matter what you wear. (Just make sure that you get the cheap gladiator sandals so you won’t feel so guilty if you use it just ONE time.)
